He Goes Out Weeping Reviews

Detective Ray Grandy was about to become involved with something for which he wasn’t ready. He reluctantly interviewed John Book, who was a doctoral candidate at Graf University’s Divinity School. Mr. Book successfully fought off two muggers and sent them to the hospital. The problem was, he didn’t look able to fight off two bunnies. Mr. Book was helping to translate some ancient Christian manuscripts at the Divinity School. Could that have been why the muggers set out to attack him? Or could it be something that had happened previously? What if it was just some random event?

While Book and some of his fellow students spent time working on the various translations for Professor Musgrave, they were still required to attend classes. At the end of the fall semester, in one of their classes there was a guest speaker, Mr. Spoons. He tried to convince the class of the potential for evil in everyone. The class had a spirited discussion of such while Mr. Book sat silently. When pressed, he conceded that everyone possessed the potential for evil. How could that be what he thought? What had happened to him in the time between his graduate degree and applying for his doctorate? Reading this novel will give you the answers that you seek.

I like that no matter what Mr. Book did in the past, now he was trying to use his “gifts” to help others and was trying to get out of the life he once lived. Book tried to convince other people not to make decisions that would ultimately cause them pain, even if they did not wish to see that it would.

I did not enjoy the repetition of the landlady’s name in the beginning. It was always Mrs. Marie Hunt. Why not just Mrs. Hunt? I also didn’t like that everyone is a suspect in the novel. I know that this is what keeps the suspense up, but I’m not sure it’s the right way to go. There was no one that John could fully trust and I think he needed that.

This book is recommended to readers of all ages. The lack of sex and the fact that profanity is only hinted at led me to this conclusion. Lovers of true mysteries will be disappointed by this novel, however. There was no real edge-of-your-seat suspense. This book had many references to Biblical scriptures and to God, Himself. For this reason, I don’t recommend it to non-Christian readers. They are likely to be offended by the addition of it.

Since there is no sex and no overt profanity I want to give this book the highest rating that I can. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. Even with the lack of someone that John could trust completely, I feel that this novel deserved it. In order to explain the Biblical parts so well, David A. Fiensy, author of He Goes Out Weeping, must have done extensive research. He seems extremely knowledgeable on the subject. The errors that I found in the book were not distracting and could be easily overlooked. I think that it was pretty well edited.

This is an interesting and easy read, which left me guessing until the very end. I liked most of the characters and found them easy to remember/keep track of. I’m not sure there was a neat & tidy ending, but I also don’t know if it sets the reader up for another book to follow.

I truly wanted justice for the crimes committed, and there was a bit of that. But at the same time, I have a lot of unanswered questions!

The end came quicker than I thought it would. I did like the viewpoints of God and the characters pondering why God allows evil in our world.

All in all, an interesting, fun and quick read. And I’m curious to know if this is part of a series so I’m going to look that up now.

LovinMaui from AmazonSurprisingly engrossing book!

John Book was an easy-going nerd who looked frail, but underneath the façade was a man as strong as a bull and ready to take any risk, no matter how lethal it may be. Despite being a law abiding citizen, he ironically seemed to attract trouble wherever he went—an unlikely character for a theology student.

Four graduate students at Graf University were working on some ancient relics when their professor was murdered in cold blood, and then another murder in quick succession. However, unravelling the motive or the killers would turn out to be a near impossible task. . . One thing is certain about this book; you can’t read it without laughing so hard repeatedly. There are loads of comical lines that will literally have you rolling on the ground with laughter.

He Goes Out Weeping is a thrilling and highly entertaining book that will surely keep you engaged till you turn the last page!
